Horn; Chamber Music
James Mosher has taught many middle and high school-aged horn students who have enjoyed enormous success in competitions, festivals and high placements in the NEC Youth Orchestras. Many of his pupils have advanced to become music majors at colleges and conservatories all over the USA, and have gone on to prosperous careers in music. His teaching philosophy, founded in the fundamentals of deep breathing and flexible embouchure, is inspired by his influential horn instructor, the late Jay Wadenpfuhl, BSO hornist and instructor at NEC. As a professional hornist, Mosher has performed with all of the leading symphony, opera and ballet orchestras in New England, as well as chamber music, theatre, jazz and rock venues. As a natural horn specialist, he appears regularly with Boston Baroque and the Handel & Haydn Society. He is a longstanding member of the Jazz Composers Alliance orchestra and the early music ensemble, Musicians of the Old Post Road, with whom he has made many recordings. He is well-known as a chamber music recitalist and appears frequently as concerto soloist with area orchestras. Previously, he was the Assistant Chair of the Brass Department of NEC Preparatory School. His professional web site is FrenchHornStudio.com. Mosher has been teaching horn and coaching chamber music at NEC since 2005.
