Soprano Jean Danton has performed widely on the opera, oratorio, musical theatre and concert stage. She has been a soloist with the Handel and Haydn Society under Christopher Hogwood and John Finney, Oregon Bach Festival with Helmuth Rilling, Boston Baroque with Martin Pearlman and the Boston Pops Orchestra with Keith Lockhart. Her many festival appearances include the Carmel Bach Festival in California, Florida's Winter Park Bach Festival, Colorado's Breckenridge Music Festival and the N.Y. Bach Aria Festival. Danton made her Carnegie Hall debut with the Masterwork Chorus and her Lincoln Center debut at Avery Fisher Hall with the National Chorale, in both instances performing Handel's Messiah. Her numerous concert appearances include the Baltimore Choral Arts Society, Providence Singers, Chatham Chorale, Nashua Symphony Orchestra, Rhode Island Civic Chorale and Orchestra, Salisbury Singers, Northshore Philharmonic, Masterworks Chorale and the North Carolina Symphony. She sang the N.Y.C. premiere of John Knowles Paine’s Mass in D under Murray Forbes Somerville and the Boston premiere of C.P.E. Bach’s St. Matthew Passion with Christopher Hogwood.
An accomplished recitalist, Danton has performed in Europe and the United States. Last season she gave recitals in Italy for the Associatione Culturale- Organi del Piemonte and will be returning for the 2009 season. Other venues include the N.Y. Trinity Church Concert Series in N.Y.C. and the Twentieth Century Music Series at the N.Y. Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center. She has performed at the Rockport Chamber Music Festival, Martha's Vineyard Chamber Music Festival, Yale Center for British Art, and the Meeting House Chamber Music Festival. She is a strong promoter of American music and has premiered works by Leonardo Ciampa, Sharon Davis, Carson Cooman, Thomas Stumpf, Delvyn Case and William Moylan. Her 2007 collaborations include the world premieres of The Prioress’s Tale, a chamber opera by Delvyn Case and Stations, an oratorio by Aleksandra Vrebalov.
Danton's operatic performances include roles with Boston Baroque, Greater Buffalo Opera, Cambridge Opera and ensemble with the Boston Early Music Festival. She performed the role of Polly in Weill’s The Threepenny Opera under Craig Smith at the American Repertory Theatre and Quiteria in the U.S. premiere of Don Quixote with the Boston Classical Orchestra under Harry Ellis Dickson. She has appeared with Boston Lyric Opera and Boston Opera Theatre (Peter Sellars) and the Boston early Music Festival. She has been a versatile soloist in operetta, musical theatre and Pops with New England Light Opera, American Classics, North Shore Music Theatre and the Hillyer Festival Orchestra.
Danton has recordings on Albany Records and Newport Classic. Her newest recording, Dichterliebe in Four Seasons, was released April, 2007 on Albany Records. She can be heard on the PBS documentaries The Nobel Legacy, Apollo 13--To the Edge and Back, American Experiences: Stephen Foster and in Mary Magdalen for Lifetime.
Danton is also on the voice faculty at Boston College and Eastern Nazarene College. Danton is represented by Peter Bergman and Berkshire Concert Artists.
