Voice

A native of Bethel, Connecticut, Jennifer Caraluzzi was the 2010 winner of the Jenny Lind Vocal Competition for Sopranos and toured the summer of 2010 in Sweden. Her other awards and scholarships include the Florence C. Rowe Voice Scholarship at New England Conservatory, Sergio Franchi Memorial Scholarship, James Furman Memorial Music Award Endowment, and the Schoolmasters Special Scholarship in Memory of Joel Kannangeiser at Western Connecticut State University. Additionally, Jennifer has received a music award from the Connecticut Choral Society and has been a top-place winner in the National Association of Teachers of Singing Vocal Competition on three occasions.

For Opera Theater St. Louis’s 2012 season, Jennifer was a Gerdine Young Artist. She performed the role of Frasquita in Stephen Barlow’s production of Carmen as well as understudied the role of Despina in Cosí fan Tutte. Jennifer also worked with Opera Theater St. Louis, Michael Cristopher, and Terrance Blanchard on the world premiere of Blanchard’s first opera, The Champion, which premieres in their 2013 season.

Studying with John Moriarty and Stephen Lord at New England Conservatory, Jennifer performed the role of Cunegonde in Candide under Lord's musical direction and alongside Luretta Bybee. Her other roles include Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro, Angelina in Trial by Jury, Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi, (performed in English at WCSU and Italian with BASOTI in San Francisco) Lucy in The Telephone, Gretel in Hansel and Gretel, Despina in Cosí fan tutte, and Zerlina in Don Giovanni.

Jennifer recently completed a project with former Manhattan String Quartet first violinist Eric Lewis for the world premiere of his composition for soprano and chamber orchestra Wrensong. The song cycle was premiered in conjunction with His Holiness, the Dalai Lama’s visit to Connecticut this fall. In addition to her classical repertoire, Jennifer also has performed as a jazz vocalist, performing with Rufus Reid and working with Daphnis Prieto, Cedar Walton, and Danilo Perez.

Aside from her musical gifts, Jennifer has donated her voice and heart to numerous nonprofit organizations, including Kevin’s Community Center, Swim across the Sound, Relay for Life, Mssng Lnks in Boston, and at her church, St. Mary’s in Bethel, Conn.
