Harp; Director, NEC Preparatory School
After several years as a member of the New England Conservatory Preparatory School administration and faculty, harpist Rebecca Bogers serves as Director of the Preparatory School effective summer 2012.
A Boston native, Bogers received her Master of Music in Harp Performance from Temple University. While in Philadelphia she enjoyed working with Philadelphia Orchestra members as a teaching artist in elementary schools throughout the city. She was also the education coordinator for Lyra Society, helping to start a harp training program in Philadelphia schools.
In Boston she continues to pursue her passion for music education and community outreach as Director of New England Conservatory's Preparatory School. An alumna of NEC and former student of Ann Hobson Pilot, she plays an active role in Boston’s music community as a freelance harpist.
In addition to her administrative work at NEC, Bogers joined NEC's Preparatory and Continuing Education faculty in January 2010. She also serves as President for the American Harp Society Boston Chapter, where she has been instrumental in reviving their educational programs.
Bogers’s musical adventures have taken her around the globe in orchestral, chamber, and solo performances. In addition to summers at the International Festival at Round Top, Aspen Music Festival, and the Camden Harp Colony, she has given performances throughout the U.S. and Latin America. Recently, she traveled with a group of NEC faculty to Venezuela to teach at a chamber-music festival with students in Venezuela’s El Sistema program.
Her harp teachers and mentors have included Ann Hobson Pilot, Elizabeth Hainen, Lisa Wellbaum, Paula Paige, Nancy Allen, Lucile Lawrence, and Alice Chalifoux.
