Rictor Noren's collaborative approach emphasizes balance, goal setting, efficient practice techniques, musical development, and a hands-on approach to training. His work supports students overcoming technical barriers, conquering physical pain and developing a professional identity.
In addition to teaching in NEC's Prep and Continuing Education programs, Noren teaches at The Boston Conservatory, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Atlantic Union College, the Prelude Music Academy, and the New World Symphony. Additionally, he has taught at the National String Workshop, the Longy School of Music, The Crowden School, Rocky Ridge Music Center, the University of Wisconsin and the University of Sapporo, Japan.
Noren has performed in recital in the United States, Europe and Japan including the Evian Festival with cellist, Mistaslov Rostropovich; the Token Creek Festival where he premiered works for viola by composer John Harbison; and at the University of Sapporo, Japan.
His orchestral engagements include the Boston Ballet, the Milwaukee Symphony, the American Sinfonietta, Bellingham Festival Orchestra, principal violist and soloist with the Naples Philharmonic, acting principal violist with the Colorado Music Festival Orchestra, and the New York String Orchestra.
Noren is currently working on several transcriptions of romantic Russian music for the viola with One World Strings Publications, in addition to his previously published transcriptions of the works of Gliere.
