New England Conservatory welcomes our WGBH friends to free concerts at NEC's beautiful Jordan Hall and other performance spaces. There are almost a thousand free concerts, masterclasses, lectures, and other events here each year, so we're starting you out with a few suggestions.

Calderwood Director of Orchestras Hugh Wolff conducts music of "Catastrophe and Pessimism," from Brahms's elegy for Austria's dying civilization, to John Adams's musical portrait of "Dr. Atomic." more info

2012-10-10 Gluck: Orfeo ed Euridice
Three singers who have wowed audiences from coast to coast journey to hell and back as Orpheus, Eurydice, and Cupid. Stephen Lord conducts this one-night-only opera in NEC's Jordan Hall. more info

2012-10-24 NEC Philharmonia
Pianist Jeffrey Kahane conducts Mozart's Concerto No. 22 from the keyboard, plus symphonies by Barber and Lutoslawski. more info

2012-11-20 Weilerstein Family Concert
Individually, they've performed in the White House, won Grammy Awards, and won an assistant conductor job with the New York Philharmonic. Together, they're mom, dad, and the kids, joined by violist Roger Tapping. more info

2012-11-27 NEC Youth Philharmonic Orchestra
David Loebel leads a red-hot orchestra of musicians 18 and under, plus a rising star as soloist in Elgar's Cello Concerto. Throw in Tchaikovsky's "Pathétique" Symphony, and you'll be on the edge of your seat. more info
