History of Western Music II: 18th - 21st Centuries

The main objective of the survey course is to study stylistic developments in music from the Enlightenment of the 18th century to the 20th and 21st century. The music and its development will be framed by exploration of the social-cultural context of the times.

The coursework will include reading assignments from the required textbook, as well as listening to and studying representative works by the composers of importance during this time frame. With the developments of the 20th and 21st centuries, composers will also include famous Americans, women, and the modern aspect of diversity in the Classical tradition.
