Intercultural Institute Presents: The Gugak Jazz Society and NEC Jazz Composers’ Workshop Orchestra

Gugak Jazz Society is a musical group that Mina Cho founded to create new platforms where Gugak (Korean traditional music) meets jazz and world music. At this concert they will be joined with NEC’s Jazz Composers’ Workshop Orchestra in order to premiere Mina Cho’s Gilryungjeon (“The Story of Gilryung”) which combines Western Cantata, Korean Pansori and Jazz Composition. Mina’s ‘Pansori Cantata’ tells the story of a blind Pansori singer named Gilryung in conjunction with the Passion of Christ according to St. Matthew.
