Hailing from Arizona, Seattle, New York City, and Los Angeles, Arcturus Quartet formed at the New England Conservatory in the fall of 2021, and under the guidance of violist Nicholas Cords was named one of the 2021-2022 NEC Honors Chamber Ensembles. Violinists Tiffany Chang and Evan Hjort, violist Sae Rheen Kim and cellist Claire Park are all students in pursuit of their Bachelors and Masters degrees at NEC studying under the tutelage of Miriam Fried, Donald Weilerstein, Mai Motobuchi and Laurence Lesser, and have previously attended the Robert McDuffie Center for Strings, Northwestern University Bienen School of Music, and the Colburn School. Members of Arcturus Quartet have appeared in festivals and concert halls around the world and are laureates of the Fischoff Chamber Competition and the American String Teachers Association Solo Competition. The name “Arcturus” comes from the Arcturus star, the brightest star in the Boötes constellation, located in the northern hemisphere.

ABOUT COMMUNITY PERFORMANCES & PARTNERSHIPS AT NEC:

A recognized trailblazer, NEC's Community Performances and Partnerships (CPP) program is one of the premier programs in the nation for engaging conservatory students with their community. Student performers and teaching artists present over 600 events for about 21,000 people annually, reaching across ages, neighborhoods, ethnicities, and economic disparities in the city of Boston and beyond. Student musicians explore what it means to be a musician living in and contributing to community life, within an atmosphere of supportive mentoring, high quality training, and experiential learning.
