    Program note and Texts

This work was born as a commission from the Festival de Música Contemporánea de Tres Cantos (Madrid). From the very first moment I decided to write a set of pieces for solo cello: a pleasant challenge! This instrument has a special meaning to me, because my wife Olga is a cellist and because we find huge musical examples in the history of cello literature –from Bach, to present days (Harvey, Saariaho...).
Every musical haiku is based on a Japanese poem: wind, butterflies, bell sounds or night
mysteries are the main actors. I have been trying to create a very subtle composition, full of evocative images and feelings and, above all, trying to write on the score only the essence.
