RESCHEDULED BSU: Coretta Scott King Tribute Concert

NEC: Burnes Hall | Directions

Join us for "Follow the Thread", the Sixth Annual Coretta Scott King Tribute Concert as we celebrate Black excellence and honor those who came before us.

Presented by the Black Student Union (BSU) at NEC:

The BSU seeks to honor the legacy of Mrs. King, an NEC alum who broke boundaries in her passion for opera and music education, redefining conventional expectations of a Black woman.

An accomplished soprano, she sang spiritual hymns at events where her husband Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. spoke, and both curated and performed at the renowned Freedom Concerts, combining music, prose and poetry narration.

In celebrating Mrs. King, BSU wishes to continue her activism in their advocacy for equal opportunity and representation for our Black students.

This year, the concert will feature accomplished composer and trumpeter Forbes Graham, poet Vanessa Silva, as well as members of the BSU student body.

We believe in the freedom to present ourselves how we see fit, without societal pressure to conform to traditional norms, genres, and expressions.
