Eric Lu '13 Prep continues to be active on the competition circuit. Having previously won the Ninth National Chopin Competition in Miami, Lu recently advanced to the semifinals at the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition in Tel-Aviv (along with NEC College student Han Chen), and in April was named winner and recipient of the audience award at the 7th International German Piano Award 2017 held last month by the International Piano Forum Frankfurt and powered by C. Bechstein. Six nominees were selected from among one hundred entrants. The competition rounds with these six pianists formed one of the main attractions of the genre-spanning Musikmesse that combined instrument vendor exhibits, performances "from classic to punk," and food vendors.

Lu's prizewinning performances in Frankfurt included Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3 with the Staatskapelle Halle conducted by Josep Caballé Domenechi. His prize includes a €20,000 purse along with performance opportunities and artistic management. More about this
