Additional Information

Hospitality Ambassadors

For all information about room assignments for lessons, coachings, rehearsals, workshops, and recitals, you can check in with one of our Hospitality Ambassadors stationed at the entrances of the 33G, SLPC and Jordan Hall buildings.

Libraries

The Blumenthal Family Library (located in the Student Life and Performance Center on St. Botolph Street) houses 75,000 volumes of music and books, over 275 journals, newsletters, and newspapers, and over 35,000 recordings on LP, CD, tape, and videotape. Use of the materials and listening rooms is available to all Preparatory students with a current ID.

Practice Rooms

Rooms at NEC may only be reserved by Preparatory School faculty for lessons, coaching, or classes. Preparatory School students may not reserve rooms for practicing or ensemble rehearsals. Because of the limited space in the Conservatory buildings, Preparatory School students are not permitted use of the practice facilities other than at lesson, class, or rehearsal times.

Photo Release

Preparatory School activities and students are often photographed for use in NEC promotional materials and publicity efforts. These photographs may be used in a publication, print ad, direct-mail piece, electronic media (e.g. video, CD-ROM, Internet) or other form of promotion. All Preparatory School students and their parents release NEC from liability for any violation of any personal or proprietary rights in connection with such use.

Photocopies

There are two coin-operated photocopy machines at NEC. One is located in the Spaulding Library; the other is located in the basement of the St. Botolph building outside of Room G03. The other photocopy machines at NEC require a departmental code, and are not available for student or faculty use.

NEC Undergraduate Admissions Information

The NEC Admissions Office is located on the first floor of the St. Botolph building. The Admissions Office is closed on Saturday. If you would like information about undergraduate admission to NEC, to schedule a tour, or arrange an audition, please contact the Admissions Office by calling (617) 585-1101 between 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, or e-mailing them at admission@necmusic.edu.

Security and Safety

Security personnel are located at the entrance of the Jordan Hall and St. Botolph Street buildings. All safety concerns should be reported to them. Parents, please note that events and concerts are open to the public. Students are advised to carry their instruments and valuables at all times. Parents must supervise small children, and may not leave them unattended in libraries or other common areas. Identification cards must be shown to security personnel when entering the NEC buildings or upon request. NEC is not responsible for any lost or stolen items (including instruments). Our lost and found is located at the main security desk at Jordan Hall.

To contact the main Jordan Hall security desk, please call (617) 585-1290.

School Closings

The Conservatory may be closed in some cases of inclement weather. Announcements will be updated regularly on the automated attendant at the NEC main number, (617) 585-1100 and at necmusic.edu/alerts. If there is a school closing and you wish to verify if a special event or concert is taking place on that day or evening, please refer to NEC's Website or call the Jordan Hall Box office at (617) 585-1260. If school is canceled due to bad weather, every effort will be made to make up lessons and classes.

General NEC Building Closures

Notice of delayed openings or cancellations will be broadcast in the following locations:

Safety First

We are aware that the weather can differ drastically throughout New England and some Prep students travel great distances to NEC. Please allow additional time for travel in case of traffic delays. We know families will make every safe effort to attend your classes or rehearsals. However, should your family determine that your area or route to NEC is not safe, please email prep@necmusic.edu (or your ensemble email) that you will not be able to attend due to the storm. Please include what Prep activities your student participates so the appropriate faculty can be notified.
