NEC Construction Update for July 10

Restricted access to parking lot on July 15.

Construction Look-ahead for July 10—23, 2014

This summer’s work has been largely focused on the 241 St. Botolph Building, as we make preparations for next year’s demolition of the Annex in the parking lot and groundbreaking on the Student Life and Performance Center.  Much of the interior work on 241 has been the run-up to relocation of HVAC equipment from the low roof of the Annex to the high roof of 241.Next Tuesday, July 15, that relocation will take place. It’s a big job.

To do the work safely and to create room for some heavy machinery, we will be forced to close off the majority of the St. Botolph parking lot that day.  We will have only 10 parking spaces available from 6:00 am to 3:00 pm. In order to accommodate as many NEC family members as possible, we will not allow non-NEC individuals to pay to park in the lot and no guest parking will allowed.  Parking in the 10 available spots will be on a first-come, first- served basis.  There will be no reserved parking spaces available.  To enter the lot you must have a valid blue or green parking pass.

We understand and regret that this will be inconvenient for some of you. We urge you to either use public transportation that day or seek alternate parking arrangements.

So what are the implications of this relocation work for the inside of the St. Botolph Building?

Along with new duct and electrical work, we are continuing with the fire protection and alarm work.  As a result, there will be some restricted access to portions of the building about which occupants have already been notified. Please note: There will be no air-conditioning in Pierce Hall in the recording studio during the week of July 14.
