Arcturus Quartet: NEC Honors Ensemble
Each year, an audition committee of professional musicians and faculty selects a few exceptional student ensembles to represent the NEC Honors Ensemble Program. The ensembles work with a faculty coach and are given an opportunity to perform a spring recital in NEC's Jordan Hall.
Hailing from Arizona, Seattle, New York City, and Los Angeles, Arcturus Quartet formed at NEC in the fall of 2021 and, under the guidance of violist Nicholas Cords, was named one of the 2021-2022 NEC Honors Chamber Ensembles. Violinists Tiffany Chang and Evan Hjort, violist Sae Rheen Kim and cellist Claire Park are all students in pursuit of their bachelor's and master's degrees at NEC studying under the tutelage of Miriam Fried, Donald Weilerstein, Mai Motobuchi and Laurence Lesser. They have previously attended the Robert McDuffie Center for Strings, Northwestern University Bienen School of Music, and the Colburn School. Members of Arcturus Quartet have appeared in festivals and concert halls around the world and are laureates of the Fischoff Chamber Competition and the American String Teachers Association Solo Competition. The name “Arcturus” comes from the Arcturus star, the brightest star in the Boötes constellation, located in the northern hemisphere.
