NEC & Yellow Barn Present: A Concert for Violist Roger Tapping (1960-2022)
Co-presented by Yellow Barn and New England Conservatory
With this concert we remember our beloved Roger Tapping, a faculty member at Yellow Barn from 2003-2021 and at New England Conservatory from 2008-2016. Roger Tapping’s musical legacy is in great part represented by the musicians who honor him with their performances on this evening’s concert. Beyond definition, his presence in the lives of these musicians was a shining example of why human beings should make music.
This evening’s works by Lei Liang, Philippe Hersant, Stephen Coxe, Brett Dean, and Eric Nathan are five of nine pieces commissioned by Yellow Barn as part of a special commissioning project in memory of Roger Tapping. In addition to Yellow Barn, Eric Nathan’s Double Concerto No. 2 was co-commissioned by the Juilliard School, New York Classical Players, and Rhode Island Chamber Music Concerts.
Yellow Barn, an international center for chamber music, encourages discovery in the studio, classroom, and concert hall; explores the craft of musical interpretation; and illuminates our world through the unique experience of music. Through its annual summer festival, Yellow Barn Music Haul appearances, and ongoing series of Artist Residencies, each year Yellow Barn welcomes over 100 musicians from all over the world to Vermont, and reaches countless audience members from the local community and across the nation.
